There isn't much time for romance in AoT, but that doesn't stop fans from wishing certain characters would get together.
Although Attack On Titan doesn't heavily emphasize romance, there are plenty of small moments hint at or explicitly show feelings developing between certain characters. Even when characters' relationships aren't implicitly romantic, this doesn't stop passionate fans from shipping them together based on their chemistry and how they interact.
Some of Attack On Titan's best and most popular pairings, like Eren and Mikasa, have been shipped in the fandom from the beginning. Others initially don't seem plausible, like Armin and Annie, but begin to gain traction after the characters go through substantial growth and are allowed to interact with each other more. There are even quite a few pairings that are strictly platonic on-screen yet have a ton of fan support behind them.
10. Ymir & Historia
Fans have fawned over the potential relationship between Ymir and Historia since the latter was still known as her alias, Krista. The two are incredibly loyal to each other, and Ymir always advocates for Historia to simply be herself and live for herself, which is an incredibly sweet sentiment.
Official Japanese merchandise has confirmed that this relationship is, in fact, canon. Official profile cards for Ymir and Historia have several statistics listed for each, with their highest statistic being "feelings for Historia" and "feelings for Ymir," respectively.
9. Niccolo & Sasha
Niccolo doesn't initially get along well with Sasha due to the latter being Eldian and Niccolo being raised to believe that Eldians are devils. Sasha herself ends up undoing this philosophy, as she connects to Niccolo through his cooking and shows him that Eldians are simply humans just like him.
It's confirmed that Niccolo has romantic feelings for Sasha in canon, but it's never shown if she shared the same feelings before her death. He's shown visiting her grave despite suffering harassment for being Marleyan, and he offers to cook her family a meal out of respect upon meeting them.
8. Eren & Mikasa
From the very first episode, fans have speculated about the nature of Eren and Mikasa's relationship. After all, Eren is the number-one priority in Mikasa's life, and she does everything possible to keep him safe and look out for him. Meanwhile, Eren single-handedly saved Mikasa's life and taught her to prioritize survival.
Eren and Mikasa have been an immensely popular pairing from the beginning, but it isn't until Attack On Titan's ending that feelings on both sides are officially confirmed. Even for those who don't ship the two together romantically, the meaning they add to each other's lives is indisputable.
7. Armin & Annie
Armin and Annie start out as an unlikely pairing, though a bond of mutual respect is present from the beginning. Annie tries multiple times to dissuade Armin from joining the Survey Corps and spares his life as the Female Titan despite this leading to the discovery of her true identity.
Armin believes Annie is genuinely kind, and she values his opinion highly and displays a less harsh side of her personality around him. While these two don't have official confirmation like some other pairings, Armin has clear feelings for and attempts to confess to Annie, and it's clear she treats him differently than other characters.
6. Marco & Jean
Despite Marco only surviving for a short period of time following training, the pairing of Marco and Jean is one of the most written-about Attack On Titan ships online. Jean originally acts hot-headed and tough to mask his own lack of self-confidence, and Marco can see through this facade and recognizes his potential as a leader.
Marco's death has a profound impact on Jean, with Marco being the sole reason Jean gave up on his lofty ideals of joining the Military Police and instead joining the Survey Corps. Although they're not officially confirmed to be anything more than good friends, they're often seen together in various forms of media for the franchise.
5. Levi & Erwin
Erwin and Levi's relationship is built on an unbreakable foundation of trust and respect. Levi originally intends to kill Erwin, but something changes inside of him during their interactions and Levi's recruitment into the Survey Corps, and this disdain transforms into absolute devotion.
Their relationship in canon isn't romantic in nature, but it's clear that Erwin is the only person Levi truly opens his heart up to. They're irreplaceable in each other's lives, and Hajime Isayama has stated that the only thing keeping Levi going after Erwin's death is his vow to him.
4. Connie & Sasha
Fans of Attack On Titan are split on whether Connie and Sasha view each other as friends or something more romantic, but it's undeniable that the two were close. During their training days, they're often seen slacking off together, and Connie quick comes to Sasha's aid when Jean calls her an unflattering nickname.
Connie is heavily affected by Sasha's death, saying he feels like he's missing his other half. Due to Connie's last name being Springer and Sasha's love of potatoes, fans affectionately refer to the ship between Connie and Sasha as Springles.
3. Levi & Petra
Petra doesn't get much time on-screen before her tragic death, but she and Levi are one of Attack On Titan's more popular ships. Petra is shown to highly respect and trust Levi, even if the orders he gives seem questionable. Petra's father seemed to believe she was even considering Levi as a marriage partner.
Though Levi doesn't say anything in response to meeting Petra's father and learning how highly she thought of him, his expression is one of intense pain. Both the Japanese and English voice actors for Petra and Levi are in support of their relationship, and Isayama chose to add extra scenes into the anime that further develop their bond.
2. Eren & Armin
Although many feel that Eren and Armin are simply close friends, a large portion of the fanbase argues that they should have been the main canon romance. It's Armin who ignites Eren's passion for the world outside the walls and his dream of one day seeing the ocean with his own eyes.
There are many scenes in the manga where it's Armin at Eren's side, but these are replaced by Mikasa in the anime. While it's unconfirmed, fans of this pairing commonly believe that Armin and Eren were originally intended to be more than close friends, but this was rescinded over time.
1. Jean & Mikasa
Jean imagines his dream girl and draws a picture of her long before meeting Mikasa in person, which is why he's so flustered and taken aback when he does. Mikasa is the only person who Jean lets his facade slip around, showing intense concern for her well-being and demanding to know if Eren had been mistreating her.
Throughout Attack On Titan, Jean's feelings for Mikasa have never wavered, but he doesn't overstep any boundaries because of them and treats her with respect and care. This is a big reason why they're an incredibly popular pairing in the fandom. In one of the series' extras, Mikasa is shown with a man who fans presume to be Jean, though this is unconfirmed.
